Stephen G Shoup

September 28, 1947 — June 12, 2018

Steve Shoup, 70, of Granby died June 12, 2018 at his home. He was born to Lester Joseph and Ruby Carolyn (Phelps) Shoup of Ohio on Sept. 28, 1947, graduated from University of Missouri and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Upon retiring from a 35-year career at Caterpillar's headquarters in Peoria, Ill. Steve relocated to the Colorado Rockies region he had long cherished as a skier and avid outdoor sports enthusiast. He cycled and mountain biked throughout the Rockies and beyond, routinely riding 30 to 50-mile daily distances, and continued to do so in the weeks and days before his death as he trained for an upcoming July endurance ride.

Steve had prolific talents and interests too innumerable to list, but at the top of these he was a passionate and talented carpenter, builder, and craftsman. Known for being prodigiously active with his ambitious projects in the wood workshop, house and yard, he was an inspiring figure to those who knew and witnessed how he transformed and beautified the spaces around him. He enjoyed fishing, whether they bit the line that day or not, and grilling the perfect meal for family and friends. When cycling season gave way to snow, he loved skiing as much as possible, especially the treed runs at Mary Jane in Winter Park. Steve loved the "moldy oldies" songs as he called them, and knew the lyrics or melody to nearly all the early oldies from the 50s and 60s. He often sang along with the lower bass melodies as they played on the car radio; not quite a singer, he belted it out regardless, the humor often as good as the song.

Steve is survived by wife Sandra Lynn Shoup of Granby, daughter Tasha (Shoup) Heidenrich, sons Stephen Shoup and Walter Shoup, brother Danny Shoup, sister Linda (Shoup) Hubert, and grandchildren Ashley Heidenrich and Lauren Heidenrich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife Lorrie (Dueltgen) Shoup, and sister Marsha (Shoup) Harman. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Steve’s name to Mountain Family Center.   A celebration of life will be held at Adolph’s, 1008 Winter Park Dr., Winter Park, 80482 on Fri. June 22 from 3pm to 6pm.
