It is with a heavy heart and extreme love that we announce the unexpected passing of an amazing Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend, Richard "Rick" John Petrie on July 6th, 2025 in Grand Lake Colorado.
Rick's life was filled with Love, Laughter, Family, Great Friends and many accomplishments. He was born September 26th 1967 to Harry(Edie) and Opal(Henry) Petrie. He was adored by brothers Marty(Landy) Tracy, Cory and sister Michelle(Dick). He spent most of his youth in Sidney MT and Bullhead City AZ. While growing up he played all the sports. He loved baseball, basketball, football, golf and riding motorcycles. He really excelled in baseball being an outstanding Pitcher, Catcher and Outfielder. This was probably mostly due to playing winter ball in Arizona and summer ball in Montana and his natural abilities. Boy did he have a cannon. He graduated from Sidey High in 1985 and later attended Dawson Community College where he received his Associates with a 4.0 GPA. Then on to Blackhills State University where he graduated Cum-laude with a double major in Hotel/Restaurant Management and Hospitality in 2003.In 1986 is when the love story began with Rick and Lori. He was a back waiter at the steakhouse and she was a bus girl in the buffet at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin Nevada. They met in the employee dining room awkwardly but ever so sweetly. No two people ever loved each other more! They dated for a few weeks then the rest was history. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Courtney Lauren(Junior) and Kristopher Casey. He coached their baseball, softball and soccer teams. He was the announcer at hockey games. He took them hunting and camping, on vacation, to concerts. He was a great dad participating and showing up for them in all aspects of their lives. They made all the wonderful memories as a family and he was so proud of their accomplishments and the wonderful and beautiful people they had become.
Being "Grandpa" to Orlando(17), Aliana(13), Dominic(7), Jackson(5), Aaron(14) and Jordan(14) was one of his life's biggest joys. Always loving, teaching and participating in every aspect of their lives. He was there the second they came into the world and loved them with his whole heart to the very end. He loved every second of all the baseball, volleyball, swimming, ping pong, golf, badminton, jenga, uno, go fish you name he played it. He loved all the craziness they had to offer and he loved the quiet moments watching a movie snuggling in his chair with them. These were very cherished moments and will be truly missed.
Rick's larger than life personality was loved by so many. He filled a room with his presence, laughter and wit at every turn. He was a great friend, mentor and partner in crime to so many. His work ethic was second to none and he could be counted in any circumstance. His years in hospitality gave him an opportunity to meet people from all over the globe. I can honestly say he will be remembered and missed around the world.
It's impossible to sum up an entire life of love, happiness, adventure and accomplishments , as he had so many. He will be forever loved and remembered as our Rock, Our Strength, Our Joy and Our World! I will be forever grateful for the wonderful life we shared and all the precious memories he has given me and so many. It was a life not wasted but ended way too soon!
