Michael Lynn Walker was born on June 17th, 1954 to Carol New and Clarence Walker. Michael was born and raised on a ranch in Fort Morgan, Colorado. In 1972, Michael completed a GED program with Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyoming and went on to obtain a CDL that contained Hazmat and tanker endorsements from Midwest Technical Institute in Springfield, Missouri, graduating at the top of his class. From there, he went on to Alaska where he was based out of Prudhoe Bay (the north slope of Alaska) and began his 18-year career in the oil field, working as a driller, where he oversaw drilling operations during Alaska’s Energy Boom. In the early 90s, Michael left the field and began working for JB Hunt, doing long-haul driving. He was based out of Salt Lake City, Utah and did coast to coast driving operations. In 1996, his daughter Andrea was born and he moved to Craig, Colorado. From there, he went to work for a local trucking company, hauling fly ash for cement companies between Craig, Steamboat Springs, Rifle and Glenwood Springs. Michael worked there until he retired in 2010. During that time, he also played an extremely active role with parenting Andrea. Michael never missed a school or sporting event and always ensured she was put first in all aspects of life. When Andrea was in elementary and middle school, he co-head coached the Craig Sea Sharks, where she swam competitively until she joined a 4A Varsity team in her freshmen year of high school, along with the school’s varsity band, cross country and track teams, where he traveled with the teams every week to meets and concerts across the state. Once Andrea graduated from high school, Michael loved to spend his time with Chelsea, Andrea and Michael’s Great Pyrenees dog, their shepherd mix dog Abi, and their Bernese Mountain Dog, Murphy. In his free time, he would also gold pan, fish, and loved traveling with Andrea. Some of his favorite trips were to Boston, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Page and Scottdale, Arizona and Yosemite National Park in California.
In 2021, Michael was diagnosed with liver cancer due to a lifelong blood disorder and underwent treatment, doing both chemo and radiation treatments. The treatment was initially successful, and he remained in remission until July of 2024, when the cancer unfortunately returned. This time he couldn’t be cured and was given 12-18 months. In October of last year, he underwent 23 more rounds of radiation in hopes to keep it from spreading and buy some extra time. In June of this year the cancer metastasized and spread into his spinal cord and kidneys. On September 28, 2025, Michael returned peacefully home to heaven.
Michael is survived by daughter Andrea Angelo and is proceeded in death by his parents Carol New, Clarence Walker, grandparents Walter and Melvora Brownlee, uncles Pat and Lonnie Brownlee and aunts Peggy Brownlee and Joyce Nicoleta
Services at this time are currently pending and will be updated when available.
Andrea would like to give a special thank-you to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, along with Dr. Spraker, Dr. Moassem, the entire Rocky Mountain Cancer Center Team and Namaste Hospice for being so kind, caring and for everything they have done for Michael and her over the last year and half.
