Markel L Albrecht

October 23, 1940 — January 21, 2026

Tabernash, Colorado

Markel L. Albrecht of Tabernash, CO passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on January 21, 2026. Markel was truly a self-made man. After working his way through college, he built a career in the railroad industry, where he was known as an honest and creative dealmaker. Markel mentored many young professionals throughout his tenure as Assistant Vice President of Corporate Tax and Real Estate at TTX in Chicago, IL. His staff described him as a fair and dedicated leader, who took pride in their accomplishments and growth.

His sense of responsibility and kindness were also evident in his role as a member of the Masonic Temple. Having a small-craft pilot’s license allowed him to volunteer to fly children and their families to specialty Shriner’s Hospitals throughout the United States. He truly loved interacting with the children and had great compassion for their parents.

Markel was highly creative and excelled at woodworking and building. He was a skilled draftsman and enjoyed seeing projects progress from concept to completion. He was the founder of Albrecht Realty and Construction, and along with his family took pride in building top-quality homes as well as being conscientious managers of their rental properties.

However, Markel and his beloved wife of 59 years, Marianne, and their family played as hard as they worked. They had adventures that spanned the globe, from skiing throughout the U.S. to deep-sea scuba diving in Palau. Markel was involved with his sons, Mark and Dan, in the Boy Scouts of America and led many activities and adventures, including a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. He was an excellent role model for his daughter, Anna, to always pursue your dreams with integrity and tenacity.

Markel delighted in his role as Grandpa, and loved spending time with his growing family, including grandsons Jack and Ivan Krasovec, , Gavin Sullivan, his wife Carly and their sons Declan and Cade, Keegan Sullivan and his husband Kyle Pingsterhaus, and took great pride in their accomplishments. He was blessed with a very large and loving extended family and many close friends who will miss him dearly.
