Obituary of Jodi Choronzy

Jodi Choronzy passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015, in Grand Lake, Colorado, at the age of 64 after a well-fought struggle with cancer.

Jodi was born on April 8, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born into a ranching family and her parents, Clarence and Mildred Schwabauer, as well as her brothers, owned ranches in Kansas, Arizona, Colorado and Montana. Jodi gained her life-long love of horses in her childhood and was a champion barrel racer.

Jodi lived a life full of love and friendships. In her life, Jodi traveled extensively, making friends easily wherever she traveled. She lived in Guantanamo Bay Cuba; Yuma, Arizona; Osceola, Missouri; and Branford, Connecticut, to name a few, but she was always drawn back to Colorado by its friendly faces and beautiful mountains. She met the love of her life, Ron Choronzy, in Frisco, Colorado, in 1989, and they were married on February 10, 1990.

Jodi loved a full house and was always quick to invite friends in and quick to rescue animals in need. In her life, Jodi saved, and cherished, dozens of dogs, cats and even horses! She was a great cook, and many will remember, and miss, her unique tradition of making a vegetarian lasagna every Thanksgiving instead of a turkey dinner.

Jodi is survived by her husband Ron; her son, Tristan Smith, of Tucson, Arizona; her daughter, Katie Geerlings and her husband Chris Geerlings, of Savannah, Georgia; her brothers, Kurt Schwabauer and his wife, Lance Schwabauer and his wife Judy, Marian, and their two children, Eric and Kristen; and by her beloved cats, Buckwheat and Mouse, and dog, Sadie.

Jodi will be joined on the other side of the rainbow by her parents, and her nephew, Sean Schwabauer.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jodi's life at her memorial on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 1:00pm at Lord of the Valley Lutheran Church in Granby, Colorado.
