Obituary of Andrea Mead
Andrea Jean (Straus) Mead September 24, 1985 - September 1, 2013
Andrea Jean Mead, 27, of Granby, Colorado, passed away at her home on Sunday, September 1, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, friends and neighbors after a courageous six-month battle with Melanoma. She grew up in Beal City, Michigan, graduating high school in 2003. Andrea attended Delta College and later transferred to Ferris State University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in recreational management. She then moved to Granby, Colorado after accepting a position at Snow Mountain Ranch, YMCA of the Rockies, where she was loved by hundreds of staff and volunteers. This is also where she met her husband, William (Billy) Mead. They married in 2009 and gave birth to their beautiful daughter, Brooke Jean, on May 14, 2012. Andrea was very dedicated to the continuous care and development of Baby Brooke and enjoyed the outdoors, sports, camping, family and cooking.
Andrea is survived by her husband Billy, and their 15 month-old daughter, Brooke, of Granby; her parents Allan and Sandra Straus of Beal City, Michigan; brother Jeremy (Tiffany) Straus of Florence, South Carolina; brother Jonathon (Sara) Straus and their son Eli of Lake Isabella, Michigan; in-laws William and Richie Mead of Kremmling and sister-in-law Michelle (Paul) Romero also of Kremmling. Predeceasing her in death are maternal grandparents Richard and Marion Cook; paternal grandparents Gerald and Katherine Straus; maternal great-grandparents Orves and Gilda Cook; and uncle Anthony (Tony) Straus.
A memorial service will be at Snow Mountain Ranch's Columbine Point outdoor chapel in Granby, Colorado, on Friday, September 6th at 6:00 pm. On Sunday, September 8th at 4:00 pm, Andrea will be memorialized at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beal City, Michigan. Per Andrea's wishes, a private inurnment will take place in Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Hope and Courage" benefit fund set up for Baby Brooke, in care of Billy Mead P.O. Box 2411, Granby, CO 80446.
